Homeschool Fridays at Terrazas Branch Library #1

  • Austin Public Library - Terrazas Branch 1105 East Cesar Chavez Street Austin, TX, 78702 United States (map)

Learn about the connection between art and nature in an activity inspired by local artist Virginia L. Montgomery. During this session, we will experiment with creating scientific illustrations using samples of colorful specimens. Participants will receive all of the necessary supplies along with guided instructions. There is no fee and attendance is open to youth ages 8 through 12 years old.

This activity is part of the Elisabet Ney Museum's brand new program, Breaking the Mold: Mobile Art Crates. The crate, itself, and the inside contents were designed by Virginia L. Montgomery, as a way to illuminate Elisabet Ney's views as a naturalist while enlisting STEAM focused teaching methodologies.

The museum's education staff will bring the Breaking the Mold program into local fourth grade classrooms this spring. To learn more about this initiative, please contact our Education Coordinator at lindsay.barras@austintexas.gov
